I don’t know about you but there is something therapeutic in fresh starts. The excitement, the possibilities and for me, the chance to be creative. At the end of each school year I feel stuck. I am wanting to throw myself into the next school year but I am still wrapping up the current one. My mind is constantly reviewing, trying to close this year and plan for the next one. The feeling that goes with that is not so great. I find that sleep eludes me during this time, a time when I need it the most. I find that I am also at my most creative but also challenged the most. To help me, I created a review that I feel might support me to close the door on this year and open the door for the next one. I have created a free support workbook for everyone who wishes to join me on this journey. I will break things up into small steps. I am hoping that this allows me to clear my mind and channel my ideas.

I aim to set simple goals but not for the whole year but just for the first quarter. It is too big a task for me to set such massive goals. It is just not realistic for me. So lets work together to review this year and start the next.

Who am I?
This is such a big question for me, but one that I find helps me remind myself what my strengths are and what I value. Who I am changes how I act and the choices that I make. Sometimes who I am changes from year to year depending on my experiences and situation. I find it really helpful every six months to check in. So lets grab a coffee and get started on our first mini step.

My Values
First, I check in with my values. I only usually pick the top 3 three things that are the most important to me. A list of ten values is to overwhelming and becomes a little irrelevant. Knowing who I am and what I value, reminds me what I need to consider when making decisions and setting goals.

My strengths
Knowing my top strengths again reminds me that I can and I will. I have tools in my toolkit to keep my going, motivated and successful. I find that knowing my strengths help me to see what I have in place that will push my forward.

My biggest challenges
This is the part when I find that my mind races. Teachers are often hardest on themselves more than anyone and in this job, there are constant rapid fire challenges. I make so many decisions that I often feel I don’t give them my full attention each day. I have limited my challenges to just three. I need to find my biggest challenges among the many. If it helps, brainstorm the list on a separate page and circle the three that make your stomach churn. The ones that keep you up at night.

Things I need to thrive:
Finding what makes me my best will help in overcoming challenges and providing the optimal conditions to thrive. When was I at my best and what made me this way? Trying to use some of these aspects will enhance my chances of experiencing goal success later down the track.

That’s it. Small step number one. Simple and a short starter to reviewing my current year. I have included the first few pages if you would like to get started on this journey with me. Each week, I will post a blog article supporting you in using the review workbook. I will post the review workbook as a whole next Friday. Until then, survive, thrive and get plenty of rest!
